S is for Speak Up, Speech, Softball, Swimming, and Student Council. Speak Up is a speech program held each year in the fifth grade and sponsored by the Kossuth County Extension Council. Contest Speech is held each year for Garrigan students. Whether a one act play or a humorous after-dinner speech, students excel with their speaking ability. Girls’ Softball is held for students in grades 7-12 during the summer of each year. Garrigan girls excel as they compete in the North Central Conference. Now available to Garrigan students is the competitive sport of Swimming. Students from several area schools compete together in this sport. The Garrigan Student Council is made up of leaders from each high school class. Their student leadership skills are evident in the halls of BGHS.
T
T is for Track, Technology, and Teachers. Girls’ and Boys’ Track is run during the spring of each year. Available for students in grades 7-12, Garrgian students turn in consistently good times as they compete on the track. The Technology department at the Bishop Garrigan Schools is second to none. With computers in every classroom and three large computer labs—elementary lab, middle school lab, and high school lab—our students stay at the forefront of computer technology. Our Bishop Garrigan Teachers help make our school what it is. United and dedicated, each day they strive to teach as Jesus did.
U
U is for Unity and Understanding. Unity and Understanding coexist at Bishop Garrigan. With students from six or more Catholic parishes attending school, it is unity and understanding that has united the student body into one large school family.
V
V is for Volleyball and VEGA. Volleyball as a fall sport is available to girls in grades 7-12. Each match the girls work hard to dig out a victory in the North Central Conference competition. VEGA is a sixth grade program sponsored by Kossuth County law enforcement officials. Material covered includes violence education and gang awareness.
