And I’m Brady Galligan! Thanks for joining us for the “Bear Facts”, the radio show from Bishop Garrigan High School.
 

Today Bishop Garrigan is hosting the state solo and small ensemble music contest for Class 1-A schools from around our area. Schools participating include Graettinger—Terril/Ruthven—Ayrshire, West Hancock, St. Edmond, North Union, St. Ansgar, West Bend—Mallard, and Clear Lake Classical, in addition to Bishop Garrigan. There will be both band and choir performances throughout the day, and the public is welcome to attend.

There are five band entries from Bishop Garrigan. Isabella Waechter will perform a flute solo, Spencer Doerning has a trumpet solo, Molly Peterson will play an oboe solo, and Gabby Buscher has a solo on the alto saxophone. In addition there’s a percussion choir featuring Isabella Waechter, Spencer Doerning, Molly Peterson, Griffin Geving, and Kayden Graves. Best wishes in competition to these Golden Bear instrumentalists. There will also be many choir selections spread throughout the day.

Tomorrow is your last opportunity to see the BGHS spring play, Clue. The show is both a comedy and a who-done-it based on famous board game. There are more than thirty students in the cast and crew. They include seniors Brooke Ludwig, Griffin Geving, Alaina Bormann, Spencer Doerning, Isabella Waechter, Zoe Montag, Hanna Merron, Isaac DeLange, and Molly Peterson.

Juniors involved in Clue are Tate Foertsch, Kayden Graves, Amaury Thomas, and Ava Roethler. The younger cast and crew members are Matt Besch, Henry Bode, Madelyn Tigges, Shiloh Trainer, Kylie Capesius, Alice Casey, and Cora Deardeuff; as well as Gabby Buscher, Aiden Lichter, Delaney Fessler—Arndorfer, Sawyer Herrick, Dalton Klenz, Aidan Deitering, Eva Kohlhaas, Leo Snyder, and Eli Casey. The final performance is tomorrow at 2pm. Be sure not to miss Clue!

In addition to track and golf, the spring sports also include trapshooting and archery. There are meets for both of those activities this weekend. The trapshooting team includes Konner Kramer, Noah Berte, Hailee Reutzel, Wyatt Rosenmeyer, Gibson Menke, Sawyer Herrick, Weston Rosenmeyer, Scott Bormann, and Mitchell Marso.

Students who are part of the Royal Arrow archery club include Alaina Bormann, who has been the top female archer at several meets. Other high school participants are Corbin Darling, Caelum Blocker, Weston Ehlers, and Sawyer Herrick. Good luck throughout the season, archers and trapshooters!

Next Wednesday we’ll be holding our annual Giving Back Day at Garrigan. This used to be held jointly with Algona High, but for the past few years we’ve done it on our own. Students will divide into small groups to do service projects that help out both around the school and in the community.


Some students will be doing yard work for elderly people. Others will help clean up at area churches and cemeteries, and another group is shining up the train park playground by Seton. We’ll also be cleaning up all over the school grounds and sports fields, and in almost every room in the building. Giving Back Day is a break from the routine, and it also good to be able to lend a helping hand.

Since next weekend is Easter, we’ll have two weeks of events on our Golden Bear calendar. Today Garrigan is hosting the state solo and ensemble music contest.

There’s a trapshooting meet at Cylinder today, and then tomorrow and tomorrow at two o’clock will be the final performance of Clue.

Monday we’ll be hosting the annual Bishop Garrigan Coed Relays, with schools from all over the area competing. It will also be senior night for both our boys and girls track teams.

Also on Monday there’s a coed golf meet, with the Bears hosting Eagle Grove. Tuesday the golfers host Garner, and there’s girls track at Algona High.

Wednesday is Giving Back Day. The Stinson Prairie Art Show is also that day, and at night there’s the junior retreat. Thursday we’ll have our annual Day of Reflection in preparation for Easter.

There’s a school board meeting on Thursday, and we’ll dismiss at 2:15 that afternoon. There’s no school on Good Friday or on Easter Monday.

There will be a golf meet on Monday the 21st, with the Bears hosting Belmond, and there’s a trapshooting meet that night at Ventura. Classes resume Tuesday the 22nd. The girls track team is at Garner that night, and the boys are at Belmond.

 Wednesday the 23rd there’s trapshooting at Palmer. Thursday the 24th there’s girls track in Estherville and boys track at Algona High. We’ll be hosting a junior high track meet at Garrigan that night.

Friday the 25th there’s a coed golf meet in Belmond, and the boys track team travels to Pocahontas. Finally on Saturday the 26th Brooke Ludwig, Sam Greteman, Thadd Kollasch, and Molly Peterson will travel to national DECA in Orlando.
